Devotions

This devotion is so critical to everyone.

"Make me your focal point as you move through this day.  Just as a spinning ballerina must keep returning her eyes to a given point to maintain her balance, so you must keep returning your focus to Me.  Circumstances are in flux, and the world seems to be whirling around you.  The only way to keep your balance is to fix your eyes on Me, the One who never changes.  If you gaze too long at your circumstance, you will become dizzy and confused.  Look to Me, refreshing yourself in My Presence, and your steps will be steady and sure."

My own special recipe of an Acai Bowl

I have researched many recipes online, and I have substituted the ingredients for a healthier alternative.  Please enjoy! Let me know what you think!

What you need:
2 (100g) packages of raw acai
1 and 1/2 banana
1 cup of mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries)
2 Tablespoons nonfat Greek yogurt
2 splashes of coconut milk
Nature's Path vanilla almond granola (flaxseed is included)
Flaxseed (if you're using a different brand of granola)
Agave nectar (optional)

Thaw the packages for 15 minutes before use.  Slice the 1/2 banana into pieces and leave on the side. Blend the remaining ingredients except for the granola.   Serve in a big bowl and top with granola, agave nectar and the slices of bananas. 

This is high caloric but with GOOD CALORIES.  It's great for a snack between lunch and dinner, because you will feel full and not eat as much for dinner.  Acai bowls are awesome for breakfast too!
It will be a staple in my diet from now on.

Healthy eats

Here are some of my new healthy obsessions. Kombucha is an acquired taste, but once you get used to it, you'll love it!! It's around $3.49, depending on your location.  I heard it is cheaper at Whole Foods.  Too bad they don't have a location near me.  I LOVE WHOLE FOODS!!

I include flaxseed in my diet by adding it into my Greek yogurt. Just make sure after you open the pouch/container, you MUST refrigerate it.

- great source of fiber and work as a natural laxative. They are a great way to keep things regular
- contains ALA aka Omega 3
- lowers cholesterol
- good source of magnesium
- reduces the risk of breast cancer due to the high levels of Lignan
- regulate estrogen levels in post-menopausal women
- have been shown to protect post-menopausal women from heart disease
- may protect against diabetes
- may prevent or slow the spread of prostate cancer
- may prevent or slow the spread of melanoma

Greek yogurt vs. regular yogurt
Protein-  Greek has double the amount
Sodium- Greek has 50% less sodium
Carbs- Greek has 9 grams while the leading yogurt has 15-17
Calcium- Yogurt has a higher calcium content because Greek yogurt loses its calcium during the straining process

Greek Yogurt is a winner in my book.  Whether or not you prefer it over regular yogurt, you should consume 1-2 servings qd to help aid in weight loss. 
Tip: find a yogurt that contains Lactobacillus

Back on the grind

So, I've been eating really unhealthy on the weekends.  I need to be more careful on the choices I make! I'm going to try to eat as clean as possible.  I really need to get back to how I looked like when I visited Maui.  Hopefully, I'll get back into shape by late June.  #BMDC

Look at how tan my legs are compared to my abs!!! I have a runners tan: pale ass torso and feet.  I can't wait to tan at my BFF's house this summer!


Bilateral Tricep Kickback

This workout is a must! I do these about 3 times a week.  I really need to get my arms back into shape.  Tank top season is just around the corner.   I don't want to bulk up my arms, so I use 5 lb. dumbbells and do this routine until I'm sore.

I'm not into watching movies, hell, I don't even know the cult classics...  The only movies I like to watch are comedies.  Some of my favorites include: Austin Powers - Gold Member, Superbad, 40 year old virgin, The Other Guys,  and Despicable Me.

When I was in middle school, my mom would rent Korean dramas on a daily basis.  We would watch such sappy ass movies that I would cry almost every weekend.  It was so freaking stressful!!! I just stopped cold turkey; it was unnecessary stress for me. 

About a year ago, I started renting movies from Blockbuster.  Bluray and HDTV has entered my life and it makes me want to watch movies more often.  I missed out on so many Classics!  Like The Goonies, Scarface, Donnie Brasco, Goodfellas, The Godfather, True Romance, 25th Hour, American Me, Natural Born Killers, Hustle and Flow, Menace II Society, Belly, etc...

I LOVE GANGSTER MOVIES.  I feel like I was one in my past life.  Sometimes I wish I was a character in a virtual game, and I would like to kill people firing my AK-47. 0_0 Anyways, I have Scarface on Bluray and I have been watching it religiously.  It will be playing while I'm getting ready to go out or just for audio while I'm doing work.  I love Tony Montana, he is so badass... you will never find a guy like that, you know why?? BECAUSE HE IS FAKE! haha.

Puffy eyes and face be gone!

So, I probably shop at Target almost every week.  Drug store makeup is pretty legit now, such as the super cheap brand like E.L.F. I'll definitely post an E.L.F. blog, fa sho!

So I bought a bunch of face masks!

The Freeman brand is pretty nice, super thick consistency, so I pile it on.  You leave it on for about 5-10 minutes.  Once you start rubbing it in, you'll feel a tingly sensation and it will start to burn a bit.  Rinse with warm water and pat dry.  Once you removed the mask, your whole face will feel super fresh and cool.  I tried the Goji Berry because the active ingredients keep your face hydrated.  Since I run outdoors, my face and lips tends to be dry.  I still have 2 other brands to try out so I'll give you the results later. 
This is a new Brand called Simple, they use natural and few ingredients for sensitive skin! My eyes have been super puffy these days, so I decided to switch up my eye cream.  I applied this about 30 minutes ago and it seems to be working.  Hopefully my eyes will be back to normal! Maybe one of the factors is because of allergy season.

Wow, I still can't commit to a freaking blog!

OK, so I'm back in action!! There's a lot to cover, so I will not spill the beans too quickly.  We will take it day by day, step by step, bite by bite... bare with me! :)

Baseball season has begun and the Dodgers are doing so so well (9-1)! I'm so proud of the boys in blue.  I'm also very ecstatic about MAGIC JOHNSON!!! Speaking of the Dodgers, the game starts in 10 minutes against the Brewers. 

As for diet and exercising, I have been running outdoors.  It's very liberating and it makes you feel so good afterwards (esp. with all the Vitamin D).  I don't gym as much as before because I like to take it outdoors!  I stopped lifting heavy weights, instead I have 5 and 15 pounders at home to do some triceps, legs and glutes exercises.  I try to limit my carbohydrate consumption, and load up on protein and fiber.  My stamina has increased and I'm able to run/jog without taking many breaks.  One of my favorite apps is called Mapmyrun.  It shows you everything you need to know about your daily run: calories burned, mph, routes, and your pace.  There's an option that shows how many steps you take, but I haven't been able to enable it for some reason. 

One thing I really need to work on is my alcohol consumption on the weekends.  #fughettaboutit
